Residents, local businesses and motorists using the Schulphoek Road can breathe a sigh of relief following the re-opening of the road between Adam Street and Bergsig/Mbeki Streets at the end of November 2023.
The project cost ± R8.6 million and 30 local people were employed.
The project entailed the following:
- The upgrade and construction of 380 meters of public road, including signage, road-markings, landscaping and a new traffic circle at the Bergsig/Mbeki Streets and Schulphoek Road intersection
- The construction of 760 meters of sidewalks on both side of Schulphoek Road
- The installation of 375 meters of a 400mm diameter stormwater pipeline
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, thanked all who worked on the project, as well as the residents for dealing with the temporary closure of one of Hermanus’ vital traffic routes.
